Q&A: Private Jet Travel
What are the top five benefits of private jet travel?
Private jet travel affords many benefits one cannot and will not receive when commercially traveling. Sara Calitri, Chief Operating Officer, and David Goodman, Chief Revenue Officer, of Private Flight Advisors list the following as the top five benefits of private jet travel:
Safety: When using private air travel, you can avoid crowded airport terminals and your ground transportation is there to pick you up on the tarmac when you arrive. Typically you know exactly who will be flying your plane and you can check into their hours on type.
Efficiency: Private flight travelers have the ability to check in only 15 minutes prior to their flights and immediately board the aircraft. You can expect only direct flights without the stress and worry of making connections. Because private flights utilize regional airports, you will likely be able to locate a flight closer to your home and destination, so less ground travel is necessary.
Flexibility: The flight crew can adhere to your schedule up until the day of departure. If you need to move a flight time back or bump it forward, both are possible. You also have the capability of adding or removing a passenger simply by communicating your need to the flight crew. In some instances when flying privately, you may even be able to change your destination all the way up to the actual departure time.
Experience: Private flight crews are experts in VIP service, which is evident from the moment you board a private flight. Your personal requests will be catered to and you will be made to feel as comfortable and taken care of as possible.
Cost: While private flights are not always the most economical option, Calitri reports that there are occasions when flying privately rivals the cost of commercial first class.
What questions should you consider when deciding whether to travel via private jet?
Goodman and Calitri recommend considering several questions when considering flying privately:
Are you traveling for business, personal, or a combination thereof?
How often do you travel?
Are you on the road a lot or is it just a one off occurrence for vacations and such?
Are you going back and forth to the same locations, maybe a second office or a second home frequently? Or is it more scattered?
With how many people do you typically travel?
Have you traveled privately before?
Do you have specific preferences of an aircraft type or an aircraft layout?
Do you travel with your pets?
Do you have any other additional special requirements that come into play when you're planning your travel?
